last week we went to Powderhorn Colorado with Matt's family to go snowboarding for a week. We arrived Sunday and it had been snowing all night. This is what we found!
Monday was amaising. There was so much fresh powder that when you fell in you couldn't get out. Matt took me down a black diamond first run. It kicked my butt. And Stacey too. Look at that cute snow bunny.
Just relaxing on the lift up.
Okay... get ready for this. Matts sister and her family go snowboarding a lot. This family is so talented. Josh (13) is on the swim team, plays baseball, wakeboards and snowboards. He also plays the piano and guitar very well. Dylan (10) plays hockey (woohoo!), baseball, an snowboards, Emma (8) Dances, sings, plays soccer, and I think baseball this year. Oh, yes, she also skis like a pro.
Emma (8) was skiing with me for the first 2 days then lost me in the double black diamond runs, the trees and the terrain parks. She kept telling me "common don't be a wuss. Be a girl!"
This is Dylan. Now remember he's only 10. Look at these tricks!
And Josh (13). He's a pro!
See if you can find him in this one. :)
This is Mike (their dad/coach) I love his hand sliding past his head. He makes it look so easy!

Then there's me. I don't do tricks. I just make it down the hill.
Then of corse Matt shares the talented gene pool.
Tom (Matt's dad), Dylan, Josh, Emma and Bridger (their cousin)
I didn't get a picture of Tom skiing but that man never quits. He just keeps going and going and going. I had to take a break for half of the day Wednesday because I was so sore! Not him!
Here's Matt and his Dad.
Emma and I on the lift.
Okay. Now for the story! I almost made it through the whole week! I would like to say that I was pulling a Shawn White (tripple backflip) but unfortunately that is not the case. Matt and I were getting ready to get on the lift and they pulled back on the chair to slow it down, I reached back to grab the back of the chair when they let go and I dislocated my shoulder. I thought I broke my arm because it hurt so bad. I was going to get off at midway but the guy didn't stop the lift like we were yelling for him to do. Matt got off thinking I would do the same but I did not want to fall and hurt myself any more so I stayed on and went all the way to the top. 30 minuted in all. Finally they stopped the lift where I was met by some medics who gave me a sling and a ride down in the sled. They weren't trained to put my shoulder back into place so we had to go to the ER in Grand junction (an hour away). From the time that I dislocated my shoulder to the time they set it was 4 hours. They gave me a little morphine at the ski resort but not enough to make a dent in the pain. I didn't get a good dose of medicine until right before they set it. So 4 hours of the worse pain I had ever felt. I went to the doctor on Wednesday and he said it looked like it was set good, no fractures, so no surgery. But get this... I have to wear my sling for 6 WEEKS!!!! So yes I am typing this with one hand. :) I told some people the whole story but some just that I did it Snowboarding because lets face it, that sounds way better and it's shorter.

That looks like so much fun- We need to go next year.
Teara! I talked to your mom when I visited her at work Friday night. She told me about your "experience" with the hospital too. Geez! Be careful, girl! Looks like you had WAY too much fun!
So... where's the story about you ending up in the hospital? I bet you could make it very dramatic and make a bunch of people feel bad for you :)
I've never been snowboarding. I never had good experiences with skiing so don't expect me to do any of that anytime soon. I'm jealous though -- you guys can do awesome tricks!
Teara, what a wonderful family you have married into! What exciting activities you all do. Looks like you had so much fun. Reminds me of the few times we all went up to Sundance at Keli's folks cabin. Neat! What hospital experience?????? Now I am going to worry, let me know! Love you gm
I just talked to your mom and she told me about your dislocated shoulder!!My goodness I am glad it was not your arm you use most of the time tho. Be careful honey. Love you gm
Oh my word! Yes, I would be one of the few that simply heard that you did it 'snowboarding!' I'd like to say that I didn't laugh (or at least smile really big) when I read how it really happened & about you riding the lift all the way up the mountain - but I'd be lying. :) I can't believe it took that long to get it set. You must have been in so much pain. You are one of the toughest girls ever! 6 weeks will fly by and you'll be back to your regular, adventurous self in no time. Until then, if you need anything (someone to type a blog entry, etc.) let me know. Em P.S. The art you have posted on your art blog is amazing! **What a talent**
